The Damned Evergreens (罰当-常緑; bachiajōroku, lit "damned evergreen") is the largest forest in all of the Land of Lightning, covering a whopping 7,000,000 km², rivaling the size of the Land of Fire's own primordial Sea of Trees. Referred to as the Forest of the Damned (森手牙; moritega, lit. "forest of hands and teeth") by the locals, this particular forest is the largest known grove of weirwood trees throughout all of the Land of Lightning, and presumably the known world. It is for this reason the forest is both revered and feared for the unique qualities the trees possess. Locals warn travelers of the dozens that reportedly die in the forest each day after being subject to the weirwood trees' malevolent chakra; legends tell that the trees themselves are sentient and show visions of all possible futures to any unlucky lost wayfarers as a test of one's will to live. It's understood that those who do not return have succumbed to the trees' illusions and taken their lives, while those who returned alive often return mentally (and occasionally physically) troubled by the visions they saw.
