APPEARANCE HEIGHT 5'8'' WEIGHT 135 lbs Masato is a gangly young man on the cusp of adolescence, approaching the awkward stages of his life. Masa has already been blessed, or cursed, with several growth spurts making him taller than most of his peers but hasn't put on any bulk to go with his added height making him rakishly thin. Coupled with his wild mop of off-white hair and disheveled appearance he looks like a walking corpse. His added height makes him somewhat clumsy, despite his ninja training, and he often finds himself tripping over his own feet or bumping into things. Despite his awkwardness, Masato displays the telltale signs of growing into a handsome man once he comes of age. Though, getting him to clean up will prove a challenge for anyone. Masa is a mess. His white hair is practically always unkempt, sitting atop his pale head like some sort of bird's nest that had just survived a hurricane. He'll make weak attempts to put it in some sort of order but most of the time he's content to leave it be. The boy's often covered in dirt from his latest fall or training session and he's smeared with his own blood or wearing some new bandage. Masa's usual style of dress is rather sloppy. He wears ratty shirts featuring odd designs, threadbare pants, and a pair of boots that are very likely older than he is. His trademark apparel item is an overly large green coat with a hood large enough to obscure his features in shadows. He opts not to wear his headband preferring to stuff it into his coat pocket with the fabric hanging free. | ||||||||
PERSONALITY NINDO "Not everyone is born strong but everyone can learn to be." Absent minded, whimsical, and fairly quirky Masato is an oddity in the village of Kirigakure. Masato is almost incessantly lost in his own thoughts; watching things that most would consider inconsequential, pondering the small mysteries of life, or simply day dreaming. It's a wonder the boy was able to pass any of his classes in the academy considering he was nearly comatose to the world around him. This trait allows Masato to be overlooked by many until he decides to act upon his observation or fantastical whims. Masato is often struck by what he calls inspiration during his bouts of spacing out and gets a sudden urge to express these ideas. With sudden mania, the boy will throw himself into something with all the passion that he can muster and, as suddenly as it came the spark of interest is snuffed out and once more the young man will stare off into space looking for the next subject to catch his interest. This inability to remain focused on a single subject for long causes most to write the genin off as an imbecile. Truthfully, Masato grows bored with the subjects he picks up quickly gaining a modicum of understanding before deciding that something else would interest him more. Behind the blank stare and tilted head is the mind of a devilishly bright ninja. Masa's sporadic desire to learn and do have allowed him to develop a surprisingly large knowledge base for someone of his age and, during his episodes, he will often spout out random facts or answer difficult questions without batting an eye. His constant need to switch to new subjects have stolen away much of the fear and anxiety most his age feel. Masato will nearly always voice his opinion, even if he isn't asked for it, and has no fear of rejection often asking others to teach him new skills when he spies them practicing them. Masato for all of his quirks and silence is a remarkably warm individual. Perpetually in a happy mood with the slightest of smiles on his face, it wouldn't be hard for the boy to make friends if he'd get his head out of the clouds. The few friends the Masa does have note how empathetic the boy is understanding their moods almost better than they do. The child is prone to performing small gestures of friendship and platitude when others seem they're most dour. The negatives his friends note are Masa's undying belief that everyone wants to help him with his hairbrained schemes and that he seems to lack any sort of understanding of personal space. "Friends help friends" is Masato's usual phrase when he's dragging someone along to help him on his latest escapade. Knowing that he's always willing to help out others Masa never stops to consider that his friends might have reservations about helping him. Masato's insatiable curiosity can not be stopped by most common road blocks. Rules, social niceties, and even laws are subject to being ignored if they get in Masato's way. The boy has no fear when it comes to his latest obsession and rarely considers the consequences of his actions. This can, at times, cause Masato to land himself in rather dire situations. So far his luck has held out as he's always been able to extricate himself from any lasting consequences. Masato fervently dreams of becoming a member of the Seven Ninja Swordsman of the Mist. It's the only thing in his life that's remained a near constant, the only subject matter he's never given up on. Masato was only a child when he watched the clanswoman battle it out with the future Mizukage, their swords clashing in the mist. The ethereal scene was forever scored into the child's memory and he made a vow that one day he would have his own duel in the bloody mist. To this end, Masato takes great strides to improve his abilities as a ninja. Often training late into the night or losing himself in scrolls of jutsus for hours on end. | ||||||||
HISTORY Born before the unification of Kirigakure Masato remembers vague fragments of how the world used to be. He remembers the subjugated Mitsudo and the coastal village he had called home for the first few years of his life. In those days Masato was a sickly child. Frail and often sick he was kept inside more often than not. To keep him occupied his father taught the child to read and often brought him scrolls and books about heroes and far off journeys. Masato had, by the tender age of five, resigned himself to being the invalid his family seemed to think him to be. That was until the day he watched his aunt do battle with the man who would be Mizukage. Watching as the blades clashed in the mist, their movements nearly impossible to follow, Masato became enchanted. He was bewitched by the savage grace of the two swordsman dancing in the pale light and vowed that he would one day be just like them. He was too young to truly understand the circumstances of the fight but it would forever be a defining moment for him. The years that followed saw Masato push himself further than he ever had. He could no longer sit idly in his home. He needed to learn the way of the sword, needed to get stronger. His first attempts were cheap imitations of the ninja arts he saw the adults of his village practice. When he realized he wasn't physically able to perform them he grew frustrated. He would not be swayed from his course and made the decision that if he could not do what the grown-ups did he would learn. Masa begged his father to bring him scrolls on the ninja ways and begrudgingly the elder Yuki agreed. With pure distilled knowledge in hand, Masa resumed his pursuits. Using the rudimentary techniques described in the scrolls Masa began down the road of the ninja with the belief that knowledge would lay bare the path to him. Masato began to venture from his home and interact with the budding ninja village. He was always an odd one looking about blankly and often covered in scrapes and bandages. The other villagers chose to ignore his odd behavior most of the time but every so often the boy would do something that required a reaction. Many times he would simply tug on the back of someone's shirt and ask them what they were doing. After informing him he would then ask to learn and they would oblige. After about an hour of aiding them, Masato would simply wander away, usually at the most inopportune of times. When encountered next any inquiry about his sudden departure would be met with a shrug and Masato revealing that he had gotten bored. When pressed further Masato responds with, "I don't think this will teach me to be strong." before turning on his heels and departing. The establishment of the ninja academies was like a dream come true for the youngling. Unfortunately, he was still too frail to join the academy. Masa was forced to study on his own with the hopes of one day entering and earning a spot as a genin. It was during this solitary study that Masa made leaps in bounds in his taijutsu abilities and also awakened his kekkei genkai, the ice release. Finally, Masa was allowed into the academy at the age of twelve, an age when most would be preparing to graduate, and attended for two years. While there he often grew bored with the subject matter that they were being taught having already instructed himself on the materials years previously. He found himself daydreaming, staring out the window pondering inconsequential things, or sometimes simply napping. This cultivated Masa's reputation of being an airhead. Masa inability to maintain focus at the academy saw him pass with only average scores despite having a full mastery of the basic competencies and being highly proficient in taijutsu and bukijutsu. Recently graduated Masa yearns to be placed upon a team and begin his first steps as a full fledged ninja of Kirigakure. | ||||||||
SPECIALIZATIONS: HYOTON RELEASE SKILL RANK: D SKILL LEVEL DESCRIPTION: Masato is rather skilled in his use of the Hyoton release opting to use it's jutsu over other ninjutsu. Since it's awakening at the age of ten he's honed his abilities to aid him in his goals. Passively, Masato's kekkei genkai grants him a heightened tolerance to the cold. Ice and snow seem to do little to bother the young man and it has to be absolutely frigid outside before he will even comment upon how cold it is. This tolerance NINJUTSU: SKILL RANK: E SKILL LEVEL DESCRIPTION: Masa's skill in ninjutsu is average for someone of his level. He hardly ever makes proper use of it though choosing to use either his kekkei genkai or taijutsu With age, it's likely that the young man will decide to expand his repertoire of ninjutsu and hone the skill to a respectable degree but it will never be his go-to form of attack while he has the previous abilities open to him. TAIJUTSU: SKILL RANK: D SKILL LEVEL DESCRIPTION: Masato was a frail child in his youth and in order to reach his dream of becoming one of the Seven Swordsman he began to train his body. For the past eight years, Masato has honed his body into a weapon in preparation for the day that he would receive a sword of his own. Until he recieves a proper blade Masa makes use of his phsycial abilities, relying on pummeling his opponent into oblivion with a flurry of blows. BUKIJUTSU: SKILL RANK: D SKILL LEVEL DESCRIPTION: Masato has never had a teacher in regards to swordsmanship. Since he was a child he's done his best to train himself, reading every scroll he can get, watching other ninja from afar, replaying demonstrations he's witness over and over in his head. His effort has gifted him with an above average ability for kenjutsu. He has some proficiency with other conventional weapons but heavily favors using sword-shaped armaments when given the choice. GENJUTSU: SKILL RANK: E SKILL LEVEL DESCRIPTION: Masato is horrid at genjutsu mostly out of a lack of effort than any true lack of skill. He's dedicated all of his time to his physical pursuits. While he may notice that he's trapped in a genjutsu he lacks the proper skill to extricate himself from it if it's anything beyond the level of an academy student. FUUINJUSTU: SKILL RANK: E SKILL LEVEL DESCRIPTION: Masa has only the vaguest of notions as to what the sealing arts are used for only and no idea how to personally use any. A real problem considering his goals in life and the fact that most of the Seven Swords are gargantuan in size, most being carried in a weapon scroll. | ||||||||

After only a few moments working with someone, Masato automatically syncs to their natural rhythms and is able to predict their movements in order to aid in any combat situations. Out of combat, this strange ability seems to give Masato a strange understanding of others allowing him to sense subtle changes in their moods and temperament. Masato's ability allows him to raise the rank of any jutsu used in concert by his team. For example, if Masato and two other ninjas were to use three D ranked jutsus they would be counted as a single C rank. These jutsus must target the same opponent and Masato must be actively involved in the attack for the ability to activate. Out of combat, Masato is simply more empathetic than the average ninja being able to sense slight disturbances in others chakra.
