VILLAGE: Konohagakure no Sato ORIGIN: Hi no Kuni CLAN HISTORY: -- The history of the Hyuuga Clan starts further back than what will be stated here but we shall only cover the most important changes the Hyuuga went through. What came before the Main House, Branch House separation no one truly knows but it is well documented on how that change came about. It started with the birth of twin girls Mai the older more compassionate and talented Kunoichi and her several minutes younger sister Terumi whom was just as talented as her older sister but much colder and ready to do whatever it took to reach the forefront of the Shinobi world. The two sisters though fundamentally different got along very well and were each others best friend and training partner. Always training and playing together the twins became very strong. So strong that their father had a very hard time figuring out who he wanted to succeed him as his heir. He put the decision off for too long and died before electing a heir leaving the clan leaderless with two ever different but evenly matched candidates. The clan debated and held votes but was always cut down the middle. Terumi who was eager to win control from her passive and compassionate sister offered a sparring match between the two sister whoever won would lead. Mai whose need to please everyone and keep everyone happy agreed as it would put in end to the infighting. The days leading up to the sparring match, that would decide the future of the clan were the first and only times in the sisters life that they did not spend at each others side. This was mainly because all their sparring matches to this point had ended in a draw as they were evenly matched and spent so much time together that they could predict what the other would do, so to make sure that did not happen the clan decided that they should train alone up until the sparring match to try to learn moves to surprise the other. Another fail safe they put on the match was that it would not end until someone loses even if they were both knocked out they would wait until one awoke and whomever woke first would be the victor. The day of the spar came and all of the Hyuuga Clan took attendance. The spar was fierce with the two sisters giving everything they had both fighting with enough intensity that they would have killed their opponent if their opponent did not know them so well and could avoid their attacks almost by instinct. This lasted for seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks after a month of continual fighting the two sisters begun slowing down and once they started to slow down it was obvious that they both though fighting so fiercely were holding back. The Clan began to become divided while watching yelling and bickering between each other. It was then that the sisters decided to put their individual training to the test. Mai took a few steps back and swung her arms two lion heads of chakra covering her hands. Terumi's eyes grew big she did not know her sister was capable of something like this and knew it was time to put her plan in motion. Terumi knew that the only reason the spars of the past always ended in a tie was because her sisters soft nature never allowed her to take the winning blow and although Terumi was a genius in her own right she was not as talented as her older sister but she had something that her sister did not. An iron will when it came to doing what needed to be done. She knew that it needed to be her that won this spar. So when her sister began dashing toward her she put her hands down. To everyone else it would seem as if she was giving up but in actuality she was preparing the Fuinjutsu that she created for this very moment. Her sister saw what appeared to be a surrender and stopped right in front of Terumi's face with a clearly confused face. It was then that Terumi tapped her sister on the forehead and branded her with what would come to be known as the Hyuuga Family Main Branch Curse Seal. Using one hand seal she defeated her sister by causing her brain so much pain that she passed out. Those who were rooting for Terumi rejoiced while those that were rooting for Mai felt as if they were cheated. In the days that came the there was civil unrest within the the Hyuuga Clan those who thought that Mai should have been the rightful clan leader were beginning to assemble behind Mai, who did not want to start a rebellion as she did not want the needless fighting. So she agreed to a terrible plan that would bring peace to the clan. She called a meeting and had Terumi pose as her and during the meeting she placed the cursed seal on everyone who entered the meeting effectively creating the branch family from those who were unhappy with her rule forcing a false peace upon the clan. In the years that passed it became the norm for the family of those whom were already branch members to get the cursed seal placed upon them when the heir of the clan turned 3 years old. They began saying that it was to protect the secrets of the Byakugan as it had the added effect of sealing a Byakugan upon death. This was needed due to a rule that was passed to make sure no branch house member would ever be able to stand up to a main house member, branch house members were no longer able to learn the more powerful eight trigrams variant of gentle fist. This was accepted as the norm with resentment but no questions for many generations. However, right before the talks of combining clans within Hi no Kuni a new Clan leader decided to change all this which effectively cut the clan in half again. With members of both houses on either side. Hayato Hyuuga lead those that wanted to abolish the use of the curse seal and even went as far as to create a seal to counteract the cursed seal. His father Goh Hyuuga did not appreciate this and it caused a civil war between the new head of the clan and the old, a war between innovation and tradition. The war lasted for several months and because Hayato was teaching his branch house members eight trigrams and liberating them from the cursed seal the tide started to tip in his direction. This was when Goh had to make a drastic decision. He began releasing his branch members and teaching them how to use the eight trigrams as well. This was when the fighting began to end. As there was no more branch house. Hayato realized that the fighting not only got him what he wanted but also made the Hyuuga clan much stronger (as they were not killing each other the fights were more like intense sparring matches). He decided now was the time to speak with his father and in a move that no one expected he held the talks in front of the whole clan. His passion and the fact that they were a stronger Hyuuga clan without the separation brought the clan back together. Sadly though his father was not swayed and in one final sparring match Hayato had to kill his father. After the war the Hyuuga who were still a clan within Hi no Kuni decided it was time for them to enter the talks of a ninja village. However because of their own civil war the talks were already pretty much over and although they came in time to allow the Hyuuga to be called one of the noble clans along with the Akaimichi, Aburame, and Uchiha they were not fast enough to show that their clan leader Hayato deserved to be the first leader of said village or the Hokage as they were calling it. There annoyance of not being chosen to be the Nidaime Hokage (or the first Hokage of the village) was not enough to give them any resentment to the village itself and they continued their life in the village very loyally. CLAN IDEOLOGY: -- For the Clan, For the Village, For the World The Hyuuga are a proud clan. So much so they they missed being part of the creation of Konohagakure due to their closing themselves off from the rest of the world when they underwent a civil war in order to change the way their clan was structured. They would prefer to disappear from the spotlight and leave people wondering rather than ask for help and let others think they are weak. However, since becoming part of Konohagakure they realized that they could be a part of something much greater than themselves (which is saying something). Because of this they have put their everything into Konohagakure. As such they are completely loyal to the village thinking of the village before even the clan. The basis of their ideology is based off that fact. Because they feel that they are one of if not the best clan within the world then being apart of Konohagakure means that Konohagakure must be the greatest village within the world if not than they have failed and it is uncouth for a Hyuuga to fail. They believe that with their influence the village could change the world for the better. This would mean that they by extension would have made the world a better place and would cement their place in history. While not all of their decisions are made based off of this pride most of them are. A Hyuuga is taught at a very young age that you do what you can for the world through doing what you can for the village which does the best for the clan. CLAN ABILITIES: -- Clan Kekkei Genkai: Byakugan The Byakugan ["White Eye"], is their bloodline. It is a Dōjutsu. The first of abilities are, when activated, the Byakugan gives a near 360º vision, except for a small blind spot at their first thoracic vertebrae. The range varies from user to user, but in general, they are capable of seeing from a minimum of 10 meters, all the way up to a maximum of 20 kilometers, and the amount grows with training, ability and age. This vision is telescopic, allowing users to see through solid objects such as Smoke screens and walls. Arguably its greatest ability is to see chakra in all its natures, including its flow and the circulation system inside the body with great detail as well as the color of chakra; giving them the ability to discern clones from the original. Like the Sharingan and Rinnegan, the Byakugan can detect chakra sealed barriers as well as determine when Genjutsu is being used. It is from the Byakugan's especially acute perception of chakra and ability to view the tenketsu of the human body that the Hyuuga Clan are able to employ their signature fighting style: Gentle Fist. Able to strike without force, and yet do more damage to a ninja than some of the most powerful Ninjutsu, the Gentle Fist has been labelled as the greatest Taijutsu style known in all of Konohagakure. This aspect of the eye depends heavily upon the distance eye as those with a low level within the distance eye would not be able to see as far or use their Byakugan as effectively as someone with a high level distance eye. Gentle Fist One of the most famed styles of Konohagakure no Sato and undoubtedly the only style which relies on light strikes, hence the name; but still incredibly powerful at dispatching foes. It is a close range hand to hand combat that works on strikes, blocks and redirection. The style works by attacking an opponent's chakra pathway system, which are closely interlinked with the surrounding organs and muscles. Even the slightest tap can cause severe damage to the organs, giving it's namesake. This is done by the user surgically injecting their own chakra into the opponent's system, damaging the surrounding organs/muscles/etc.,This is usually performed through the index and middle finger or through their palm. With the aid of the Byakugan they can gain an intricate understanding of the tenketsu, and can open, or close the Tenketsu. This wrecks havoc in itself as inflicting these injuries completely changes the dynamic in people's chakra systems that allow them to mold chakra, that can range from worse chakra control to zero ability to perform ninjutsu. It should be noted, that any chakra based substance can be destroyed by the Gentle fist, which is done by leaking chakra through their hands into the shape of a protruding needle, or knife-like blade to cut through the opposing chakra. Because the chakra pathway system is invisible to the naked eye, the Byakugan is required for this style to be used effectively. Since the Byakugan is unique to the Hyuuga clan, it has become their signature style of combat. Also ones ability with gentle fist, especially the eight trigrams variant of it, correlates directly to ones ability with the precision eye as with a low level of precision one would not be able to pinpoint the tenketsu as well as hit them during the heat of battle consistently. CLAN HIERARCHY: -- Once upon a time the clan was separated into two parts, the Main House and the Branch House, a system that was once believed to protect the secrets of the Byakugan from outsiders. The Main House ran the family while the Branch House protected it. The members of the Branch House were branded with a cursed seal upon the third birthday of the heir to the Main House. This seal gave the Main House members absolute control over the branch members, because they could destroy the branch members' brain cells with a simple hand seal, or cause them great pain to punish them. This seal also made sure the secret of the Hyūga's Byakugan was safe, because it sealed the Byakugan after the wearer of the seal died. Because they were essentially servants, simply because of their birth order or heritage, some Branch House members were hostile to those of the Main House, though not directly. It should be noted, that only the main house members are allowed to learn the Gentle Fist techniques. The branch house, while able to learn Gentle Fist style were forbidden to learn any of the more advanced eight trigrams jutsu. This was said to be for the express purpose of always given the main house an advantage if the branch house were to ever try to revolt or find a way to reverse the effects of the cursed seal. However sometime ago this all changed. The division of main house and branch house is no more, instead their is a system in place to allow the younger generation to learn how to better use their KKG based upon their skill set. What this means is that their are two branches one being experts in the distance aspect of the eye and the other being precision aspect of the eye. These branches are more like schools as they are committed to teaching Hyuuga how to better use their eyes no matter which aspect of the eye they happen to gravitate toward. These schools both have equal say within the clan and the leaders of both schools make up the two thirds of the council. The council is what is in charge of the clan and is made from the head of the distance school, the head of the precision school and the Clan leader (who is still chosen by birth). This system gives everyone almost equal say as they leader of each school is chosen by the clan as a whole. Though within meetings all three members of the council have a say the Clan Leader reserves the right to overrule the other members of the council (something the current Clan Leader has not done since creating the school system and the council within the Clan) basically judging the situation on his own. Because of the school system and the council the rift and bad blood that was brewing within the Hyuuga has been abolished.
