Mikagami |
CLAN TYPE: Hiden VILLAGE: Sekai | WorldORIGIN: Yama no Kuni CLAN HISTORY: -- The Mikagami clan was originally a clan of merchants and traders, ones who made a living by selling and trading the papers and craft they made. They were especially well known for not only their paper crafts (such as various art, origami, the paper itself and the like) but also for their papers' different qualities - some were more resistant to flames than others, and some would burn at the slightest heat. Some were water-proof, and some could burn for extended periods of time...but those are just a few examples. The clan was sought after for their special papers, and as such the techniques to make them were kept highly secret and given only to clan members. It was their livelihood, so it was only natural that they took special care to ensure that it was kept in the clan. Being nomadic, the members of the Mikagami tended to move around the world frequently, never staying in one place for more than a few months. This meant that they lived a simple and humble life, but... they wouldn't ask for more. They were content, and that was enough for them. They didn't care for much, just cared about surviving and looking after their own. It wasn't until a young child discovered that the paper they made could act as a medium for chakra did the clan become what it is today. The child, a young boy of barely 12 years old (who picked up chakra control from the shinobi he met in the clan's travels), bored and alone, played with his origami to pass the time. Frustrated that no one would spend time with him (for they were all busy preparing for an important order, and the other children were interested in helping whereas he wanted to play) he unwittingly released a small amount of his chakra into his environment. To his pleasant surprise, the origami and paper on his desk began to dance, and as he played around with it using his limited chakra training, he found he could do various little things with them. This discovery, later shared with the elders, prompted them to start training the clan members in chakra control and shinobi arts. This thus started the shinobi faction of the clan. The clan was now split into three groups - those who were purely merchants and traders, unknowing of the art of ninjutsu, chakra and shinobi; those who were purely shinobi, never dealing with trade and constantly training, their livelihood came from completing missions; and those who were a little of both, learning shinobi arts yet still being merchants, sometimes taking low-ranked missions given out in the towns and villages they went to. Despite the split, the clan still moved as a whole, though each faction had their own leaders, one who answered only to the overall leader of the clan. Nothing much really changed - the clan still shared techniques among themselves, and they still took extreme care of each other. Family was still above all. The only thing was that now, the Mikagami wasnn't just a clan of merchants and traders....they now had shinobi. CLAN IDEOLOGY: -- Family above all. A core rule to the Mikagami (mainly due to their nomadic tendencies, as as nomads they only had each other), it shows their loyalty to each other and their loves for one another. No mater how far an individual travels form the clan, unless they were explicitly banished, they would still be considered family, and family stood by each other. Nothing would tear them apart, and no matter the situation: a Mikagami could still rely on a Mikagami, a Mikagami wouldn't kill a Mikagami. This applied regardless of faction, even if two clan members were on opposing sides. They were still expected to be courteous to each other (manners was a thing in Mikagami upbringing) and treat each other as family. Of course, accepting that this couldn't be the case in every situation should two Mikagami be on opposing sides, so exceptions were allowed, though the act of killing another family member was still frowned upon. No matter where a Mikagami was born, where they were raised, where they ended up, they were always family, and could still rely on other Mikagamis in times of peace. The rule did not just apply to the clan members, however, as Mikagamis applied the 'family above all' rule to whom they considered family, be they blood or not. They are protective of and loyal to family (even if not their own, but another clan member), and will do anything for each other. It is a reason why internal squabbles in the clan were near none, and why having Mikagamis on opposing sides were rare to begin with, in part due to their second 'rule'. Peace to protect. Mikagamis are big on peace - they don't really like to fight, or at least aren't born with an innate bloodlust. Such traits develop later, and it's not uncommon for shinobi Mikagamis to gain a slightly bloodthirsty nature as they mature. Generally, however, Mikagamis are taught to value peace just as much, if not more, than family. It's not uncommon for unhinged clan members (members who don't have a reason to stay where they are permanently) to migrate to a peaceful and safe location when war breaks out. Take what you need. Another value that Mikagamis are taught since young is not to desire more than what they need, for it was a belief that desire was one of the causes of discord, and as family was everything to the Mikagamis, they sought to ensure that nothing could tear them apart. Of course, this does not mean to say that the clan members were 'immune', so to speak, to the emotion, it rather means that they tended to lack a strong desire for most things, and knew how to be content with what they had, even if it weren't the best of circumstances. It was something that helped the nomadic Mikagamis remain together despite the tough life they had as merchants, traders and shinobi who moved around so much. Freedom and a chance to do anything. Mikagamis value freedom and the ability to do what one wants. They, like birds, prefer to be 'free', not cages and their 'wings' unclipped. They want to be able to do what they want, and sticking in one place isn't something they can easily do - they need to be on the move (in the case of shinobi of a specific village, having chosen to live there or were born there, they simply just can't not be in one place for too long. One will probably seen them wandering around the village, or on missions frequently.). They also believe that anything is possible, so long as one has the heart and determination to try and try until they get it. It's a belief that tends to run strong in the clan as well, and a belief that will be hard to break. CLAN ABILITIES: -- SHIKIGAMI NO MAI The overarching name for the special techniques the shinobi of the clan use. The 'Shikigami no Mai' specifically refers to any paper-based ninjutsu techniques that the clan creates. The ninjutsus uses papers as a medium for chakra, allowing for the paper to act as weapons, clones...or anything, really. As the techniques are only passed from clan member to clan member, the 'Shikigami no Mai' is considered 'Hiden'. Drawbacks and strengths depends on the materials used - for example, if normal paper is used in the technique, then oil is a drawback, as oil causes the sheets of paper to stick together and resist manipulation. If using fire-proof paper, then fire is no longer a worry, and Mikagamis need not soak their paper in water to avoid them burning. However, if not using 'normal' paper (the type that they can create at will by expending chakra) for the technique, then the shinobi must have the 'special' paper on their person or close by. Beside being an umbrella term for paper techniques developed by the Mikagami clan, the 'Shikigami no Mai' also refers to the ability that forms the basis of the other paper techniques of the clan - paper creation and paper form. By using chakra, Mikagamis are able to one, convert their body and clothes into sheets of paper, and two, create even more paper by expending chakra. First thing to note is that the papers their body and clothes turn into and the papers they can create at will bear the same properties as any normal paper, and the main drawback is thus oil. Water, however, does not bear negative effects on this paper (the paper will not become soggy and easily teared) and can instead be used to advantage of the shinobi, as they can use water to wash off oil or resist flames and heat. Second thing to note is that by using their chakra, Mikagami shinobi can control and reshape parts of their body at will, even turning themselves into things such as origami paper butterflies or weapons. Due to this skill, given enough chakra and some practice, Mikagamis can heal any physical wound. They do so by first turning themselves into paper then reconstructing their body to the way it was before. In paper form, they also gain the ability to levitate, albeit at a slow pace. By forming wings of paper, however, they are they able to traverse large areas in short amounts of time due to the enhanced flight the wings give them. With enough skill and chakra, Mikagamis can also mimic environmental surroundings, allowing them and those of their choosing to hide in places one normally wouldn't be able to. CLAN HIERARCHY: -- Leadership in the Mikagami is passed down through choice: the leader will always choose the heir. In current time, due to the new state of the clan, there are four official spots for leadership, permanent spots that never change - one overall leader who overlooks the entire clan as a whole, one shinobi leader who oversees the shinobi of the clan and keeps tabs on them, one merchant leader who over sees the merchants and traders, ensuring their wellbeing and such, and one combination leader who overlooks those who dabble in both shinobi and merchant realms. Each leader has their heir, and each are free to choose who they think best fits the role. As such, there are no set traits to be sought after in a heir, as the values change depending on what the current leaders deems necessary to keep the clan going and running smoothly. After all, no one wants a leader who is evidently going to destroy or weaken the clan. Thankfully, due to the values of the clan, there's little squabble over who the next leader is, and most just take it as is. This allows for two heirs per leader - a preferred heir and a heir for 'backup' - in the case where the preferred heir dies and for some reason the leader is unable to choose another heir, the second heir takes the leader's place. It's a precaution to ensure that in a situation where the leader and heir dies, there is no confusion or uproar over the next heir, as such a case had happened before to the shinobi leader and heir. In the event that the preferred heir remains alive long enough to become leader, the second heir may or may not remain heir dependent on the new leader's discretion. However, the second heir tended to end up in a role that placed them in a position second to none other but the leader themselves, allowing them to adopt the leader's duties should the leader fall sick. In essence, one can thus say that at any one time, there are two leaders (main and sub) and two heirs (main and sub).
