Kaede |
APPEARANCE HEIGHT -- 6'0 WEIGHT -- 160 The first thing most people will notice about Kaede is most likely that she is very tall, much taller than the average women. She stands roughly six feet tall, towering over most other women around her. The second thing would be that amongst the people in her village, she has a fairer complexion when compared to some of the other dark-skinned people. She is somewhere in the middle between brown and white, almost tan, but just a little darker. Though she is tall, she is neither skinny nor lanky, but rather she boasts an athletic build, nearing muscular. To compliment her skin, she has short, dark-brown hair cut in a bobbed fashion, a little shorter than shoulder-length. Her hair is usually a bit messy, though brushed. It is clear that she spends little time worrying about such things. Her features are soft and petite, with large, bright, emerald green, almond shaped eyes. Her nose small, but visible, centered in perfect symmetry with the rest of her face. She has medium, pinkish-brown lips, with very slight dimples. Her face is neither small nor large, but is just kind of in the middle, giving her a generally plain look, but there is a quiet beauty to her plainness. Her emerald green eyes giving a sullen grace to her overall appearance. As for clothing, Kaede will be the first to tell you she has a bit of an obsession with the color blue. Whatever outfit she is wearing, you can rest assured that most of it will be blue, or some shade of blue. Her two favorite shades being royal and navy. Even when her clothes appear dark, they are never black, but always navy blue. She in fact detests the color black, and is never seen intentionally wearing it. With that being said, depending on the weather, she will oftentimes be found wearing something fur-lined or with fur on it. Typically she prefers white fur, but will not refuse brown or red. Most every jacket she owns is blue with a white, fox fur lined hood, cuffs and waist. As for the rest of her outfits, she tries her best to not go overboard, wearing simple clothes, fur-lined dark-brown mukluks. |
PERSONALITY NINDO: "Wherever there is struggle there is sacrifice, and death is a common occurrence. But we have the interests of the people and the sufferings of the great majority at heart, and when we die for the people it is a worthy death. Nevertheless, we should do our best to avoid unnecessary sacrifices." Personality is something Kaede is very much not lacking in. Though her appearance may be plain, she makes up for every bit of plainness with a very loud, out-in-the-open personality. That is not to say she “wears her heart on her sleeve”, she is not that pretentious, and would in fact probably smack someone for suggesting otherwise. She is not proud, or boastful, being willing to always accept if she is wrong about anything. She will apologize if necessary, seeing it as not only polite, but just and right. She is a person who cares deeply, and intensely about others. Her entire life is service to her people. She values them, their opinions, wishes and needs more than anything. What can and should be said about her as the truest aspect of her personality is that she is driven by a great sense of love. Love for her people, her village, her country. She values herself as the spokeswoman for the needs and desires of the people of Kumogakure. She sees herself as the guiding force and teacher of village, with each citizen, no matter who they are, being a pupil of hers. However, she sees herself too as a student of the people, often going out amongst the people, helping them in their daily tasks and making sure to take time to listen to them. It is not a rare sight to see her out in a field helping plant and pick the harvest. Though she values her people and their opinions and wishes, she values their needs above all else. She always listens to them, and takes into account everything they say, she will not act simply on their whims and wishes if they would be contrary to the good of the people as a whole. She views that what is good for the whole is ultimately good for the individual, without fully disregarding individual needs. She views herself and everyone else as individual units acting as parts of a whole. That is to say, each person has individual value as a part of a singular entity, that entity being Kumogakure. Pride in oneself is ultimately the product of pride in the village, and to have pride in the village it must strive to be something to be proud of; this is impossible if the village does not act towards the greater good of every person within it. To her, the people are the village, and without the people there is no village, so the people and the people alone are what make a village great, strong and prosperous, or meager, weak and poor. She sees herself as no more than the guiding force behind the village. Her rejection of individualism does not prevent her from acting as an individual though. Aside from her public personality, there is as well a private side to Kaede. She views that how one acts as a public servant should affect how they are in all aspects of life, and so she has a tendency to bring her work home with her. That is to say, she is always working, and very rarely has any time for personal activities. Though, she tries to take some personal time when she can. She enjoys simple and peaceful activities, that allow her time for quiet reflection. She can usually be found in the mountains or the forest when she does have time off, either writing, read or fishing. She finds fishing in particular to be the most relaxing of hobbies. She has a natural affinity towards water and aquatic life in general, and as such she has taken it upon herself to have personally stocked many handmade ponds with fish she catches in the rivers just outside the village. When she cannot take enough time to get away and into the wilderness, she will walk around the village feeding the fish in each pond. Aside from her daily work as a public servant, Kaede makes it a point to train every day, and promotes that everyone takes at least one hour out of every day to hone their skills. She believes that a well-trained and prepared village is better than a village that relies purely on strength. She values defense over offense, and will spend hours a day making sure the defenses of the village are up to snuff. She is a militaristic person, and promotes that all people living in the village have at least some training in martial arts for self-defense. She believes that all children should be conscripted into the academy, and must attain at least the level of Genin, after that they are free to do whatever they want. When fighting, Kaede will take the role of support and defense, preferring to end battle as quickly as possible. She is not a fan of fighting, but she understands why she must, and will do whatever it takes to ensure that her village and by proxy her villagers remain safe. |
HISTORY Kaede grew up in Kumogakure, though her family is not originally from there. Well, half of them that is. Her grandparents were both members of the Yuki clan from Mizu no Kuni, who came to Kaminari no Kuni some eighty years ago. There was a general disagreement between them and the clan that lead to violent action, in which the mortally wounded a clan member. They had broken the sense of unity within the clan, and caused grave harm to a family member. They were utterly disgraced. Though they were young, they were sentenced to death. Instead, they chose to run, sentencing themselves into exile, for life. It had become clear to them that unity truly was an important virtue, and they would have to find their own sense of unity if they were to survive. They left Mizu no Kuni forever on a small ship they stole, not sure where they were heading, but knowing they could never return home. They were caught in a storm, and found themselves stranded on a large, cold island, just south of Kaminari no Kuni. The island was more like a frozen rock; barely any vegetation existed on the island, for as far as they could see, there was nothing but snow and a few small patches of evergreens. The cold was not the part that bothered them; even the coastal winds were not that terrible. How alone they were on the island was the more excruciating for them. They had between the two of them a decent amount of experience in terms of survival. They had been trained as shinobi within their clan, and used their knowledge to forge for food, and create a shelter. As they had fled no more than a week ago, they knew it was important to lay low for a while, until things settled down. Unbeknownst to them, the wreckage of their shit was found just off the coast of Mizu no Kuni, and it was reported to the clan that they had most likely died in the storm. They built a small cabin out of the few trees around the island, and stayed there for years to come. Roughly fifteen years after their escape from death, they bore a single child, a girl named Akiko, who would naturally go on to become Kaede’s mother. Her father was a native born, aristocratic warrior who hailed from the Tennin clan. Initially, Kaede’s grandparents thought it best to keep their lineage a secret. They feared that revealing their abilities would cause one of two events to unfold: either they would be killed, or they would be used. They wished more than anything to stay out of the conflicts going on, but still they trained and trained Kaede’s mother just in case. They kept their peaceful position for as long as they could, but after the onslaught of the Juubi they knew they could no longer hide in the shadows. It was during this time that they made their abilities know to the Tennin clan, offering their services as former members of the Yuki clan. Much to their surprise, the Tennin did not attempt to kill or use them, but accepted them with open arms; this was when Kaede's mother met her father a man believed to be one of, if not the best protector of the Tennin by the name of Kenshin. Kenshin and Akiko grew close quickly, in part from fighting alongside one another, but also from their shared ideals. Akiko had been brought up to believe that each person was important, and was important. This was something Kenshin believed to be very true. However, Akiko did not grow up within her clan, but rather with the only connection to her clan being her parents. There were many aspects of an extended family Kenshin understood that Akiko could not. Kenshin had been brought up to believe that the whole of a unit is made up of individuals, with individual needs, wishes and dreams. When they married, Akiko became a part of his family, and finally understood the importance of unity within a group. Her parents had died fighting against the Juubi, so the only thing she had was Kenshin and his family. Twenty years prior to the formation of the shinobi villages, Kaede was born. Her mother and father had become two of the most respected and feared shinobi in the land. Both of them greatly valued unity above all else, a trait which they passed onto Kaede. Her father would go on to become one of the most respected shinobi, in part because of his deep connection to Kaminari no Kuni, and his brilliant skill in strategy and defense. The beginning of Kaede's life was generally peaceful. She trained alongside her parents, who instilled in her a conviction for the protection of others. Sadly, this would not last long, and her father was cast away into battle once again. Akiko, though on par in strength to Kenshin, decided to stay behind and train Kaede, in the event that the need came for them to fight. Kenshin played the role of chief strategist, and lead many battles against the Juubi. Kenshin would end up giving his life to protect the nation, just prior to the deaths of the Gokage. He had never agreed with the methods of the Shodai Gokage, Kurahama, and always believed that his service would see him as the obvious choice to eventually succeed the Gokage. He knew little of his dealings, but always found him to be a distrustful man. Kenshin and Akiko had a strong sense of unity, and excellent teamwork. Their ideas clashed with the individualistic nature of Kurahama, but their skills was recognized, and he used it to his advantage. Kenshin and Akiko despised Kurahama, but saw the possibility of a bright future, if ever they could somehow find a way to eliminate him. Sadly, Kenshin died before he could get this chance. Initially, Akiko had been tapped as the natural successor to Kenshin as Kurahama’s chief strategist; her abilities were all but unparalleled, however, she had become too old to lead, and Kaede was still too young. Kurahama did not care though, and she was forced into the position. Upon Kurahama’s death, just a short time after her forced appointment, she announced that she would make this position temporary, until her daughter could take over for her. So, for the next few years her mother would spend time grooming and teaching her how to be a leader. Most of her life had been encompassed with fighting and violence, something her mother understood very well, having been born into conflict. She would use their similar upbringings as a means to trains Kaede. They both shared a similar mindset, built around living in times of war, and this would carry on into Kaede’s very nature. Akiko made is clear that she did not wish to make chief strategist her permanent role, and this was one of the reasons that she took her daughter as he disciple. She knew that the ideas of Kenshin and herself were the most appropriate and functional way to lead the village. Though Kenshin had died before it could be known if he would become the Raikage, and Akiko had no ambition for that role, she certainly had those ambitions for her daughter. The will to lead was not foreign to her, and she too shared this goal. Kaede was aware that there was no guarantee to become Raikage, but it would not hurt her chances. Her reasons we not selfish, or some narrow-minded conquest for power; Kaede was one who did not know selfishness, her heart and mind were centered on the village. Above all else, she cared deeply for the village and its people. Kaede understood that the position would not simply be handed to her, and it became her goal to prove herself worthy of taking on her father’s former position. She made it very clear that she would do anything, no matter the cost to herself, to protect and serve the village. Kaede would become acquainted with the Nidaime Raikage, Miki. At first, their relationship was strained. Though they had some general agreements, she found him hard to work with. Her mother assured her that working with him was for the best, and she listened, doing her best to work alongside him. He was a rather queer fellow in her eyes, but she knew that there was a reason he was chosen as the Raikage, and that if she wanted to take on her father’s former position, she would need to serve him honorably. They would eventually establish a working relationship, and as time passed she would come to know him better. Akiko, in her old age, would occasionally accompany him on secretive mission, to which Kaede would not know the nature of, simply that they existed. Her mother would grow tired of these mission, due to her old age, and eventually Kaede would be tasked with them. It would be at this time that she would become aware of the GUNBU, a tainted reminder of the dark days of Kurahama. Two years after the formation of the villages, after the Shinobi Organization System, small conflicts began to pop up here and there. Of the younger generation of shinobi, it could be said that Kaede was one of the most gifted. When the system was adopted, she was bestowed upon the rank of Jonin. She was one of a select few in her age group who were given this title. Each one of them being a highly respectable shinobi in their own right. Akiko now acted as Jonin Hancho, a position she filled ceremoniously, as it was the successor position to head strategist for the village. She took up a consultory role in her position, as both Kaede and Miki agreed she was too old to act as anything more. Kaede would be tasked with a special mission to quell the unrest that was arising from the clans in Kaminari no Kuni. Kaede happily took on this mission, seeing the restless clans as a threat to building a strong, unified and secure village. She would be working as head of the GUNBU. A position that Miki was initially reluctant to give to her. Not out of a lack of trust, but from knowing first-hand how the GUNBU were. The two had worked together since the death of her father, and she made sure to calm an fears he had. She had been made aware of the nature of the GUNBU, and Kurahama’s dark deeds. She made it known that she would not fall into the same individualistic, sadistic path that he had. Though still reluctant she was made team leader of the group, which came to be known as Heiwa Hozon Dantai (Peace Preservation Organization), called the HHD for short. The existence of the group was kept top secret, only the Raikage, Akiko and a select few were aware of its existence. Under her guidance, a careful system of surveillance, espionage, and, at times, assassinations was set in place. Any and all reactionary forces met with swift justice from Kaede and the HHD. The unrest was quickly silenced. The HHD seemingly ceased its functions as a covert death squad, Kaede however, having been the leader of the operation was not fully relieved of her duties. The organization would become known to the villagers, by Miki’s decree, but its true purpose would remain a secret.Though the HHD no longer existed, it was necessary for someone who could be trusted above all others to keep a watchful eye on the village. It was around this time that Kaede developed her “Frozen Eyes” jutsu, as well as her “Akakumo” technique. She used the “Frozen Eyes” to, quite literally, keep a watchful eye on all the happenings of the village. Her duties, essentially as the villages top spy and chief and sole officer of the secret police, were kept a secret from everyone by herself and the Raikage; not even her mother was allowed to know about these dealings. The HHD, as it was known to the villagers was an organization to keep the village safe. Though it did not actually act as such, the villagers were none the wiser.Kaede gained a reputation in the village as a protector of the people, loved by all. In reality, she was acting as the warden for the GUNBU, and making sure that no reactionary uprisings would ever rise up again. Even those within the HHD under Kaede were unaware of its actual dealings. They acted as the protectors of the village, while, as the head of the organization, Kaede had a much darker job. Occasional attacks on the village were still an issue, and Kaede would make sure to take care of them the best she could. She mastered control over her massive well of charka, and figured out how to wield it as both a weapon and a shield. Its red aura became infamous to any who encountered it and managed to live. It was with this that she became known as Kaede of The Red Cloud. In this time, and because of her obvious skill, her mother was finally able to step aside, as Kaede was chosen to be the next official Jonin Hancho. She had earned the trust of Miki, and become his number two. Some would have thought Kaede too young to be a leader within the village, at only twenty-three years of age, but Miki knew better, and she would quickly dispel any doubts had about her abilities. Four years have passed since her ascension the Jonin Hancho. In that time, Kaede set out on mission to make her village the best it could, instilling the values her parents taught her and believed in along the way. She promoted unity, militarism, egalitarianism and nationalism. She has done all she can to bring together each and every clan within Kaminari no Kuni, promoting strength through a national identity as Kumo no Nakama (Comrades of The Clouds). As it was unknown that she was the leader of the HHD, she quickly gained a reputation as a compassionate woman, who sought to forge a lasting peace through unity within Kaminari no Kuni. She understands very well that the current general peace between villages may not always last, and so she believe that her village must be ready at any time to fight. She also believes that they should do their best to stay out of the affairs of other nations, preferring self-determination and isolationism over intervention of any kind. Her aspirations to be Raikage are well known within the village, but due to her reputation, it is not necessarily unpopular. |
SPECIALIZATIONS: Kekkei Genkai SKILL RANK: B SKILL LEVEL DESCRIPTION: Kaede has spent her entire life honing her skills in her Kekkei Genkai. Her parents always viewed this as the most important skill her to master. She has spent very little time focusing on anything else aside from this. Though, she should not be considered a one-trick-pony. She has become skilled enough to utilize her Kekkei Genkai in conjunction with her naignata, and has created quite a few very powerful jutsu that rely on her Kekkei Genkai. In addition, her mastery of her Kekkei Genkai has allowed her some resistance to cold, ice and snow. Having an ability that allows her to use ice and snow based attacks, Kaede has developed a natural resistance to cold, and is not effected by snowy/icy/cold conditions in the same way others would be. Her eyesight is not effected quite as badly by whiteout conditions, but it is still very difficult for her to see. On top of that, she is also less susceptible to conditions such as hypothermia and frostbite. When other people are freezing, she is right at home. As well, she has an enhanced knowledge of the effects of cold weather on herself and others. She is able to recognize the symptoms of hypothermia much more aptly than others, and has advanced knowledge on proper treatment. NINJUTSU: SKILL RANK: D SKILL LEVEL DESCRIPTION: Kaede has spent almost no time training in Ninjutsu, preferring the use of her Kekkei Genkai over literally any Ninjutsu. Because of this, she has almost no skill in Ninjutsu, aside from knowledge of hand seals. TAIJUTSU: SKILL RANK: B SKILL LEVEL DESCRIPTION: A large part of Kaede's skill in Taijutsu is specialization in speed. She has trained to a decent level in her ability to be fast, which she uses in conjunction with her Kekkei Genkai. She has developed her Taijutsu to such a degree that, when moving, Kaede leave behind a red trail of chakra. She has figured out how to utilize chakra to enhance her speed and reflexes. Though most of her Taijutsu training has been to increase her speed and reflexes, Kaede is a capable hand-to-hand fighter, focusing on grappling techniques and quick punches, jabs and kick. She uses her speed as an advantage in fighting of defending, relying more on multiple, fast attacks, rather than slow but strong attacks. That is not to say that her attacks are not strong, but her main focus is not brute strength. BUKIJUTSU: SKILL RANK: B SKILL LEVEL DESCRIPTION: Kaede has become very skilled in Naginatsjutsu of the years. This is a skill passed down from her grandfather, to her mother, and eventually to her. Typically, she will not rely heavily on her naginata for close combat, unless necessary. Rather, she prefers to use it in conjunction with her Hyoton abilities. She can send large, crescent shaped blasts of ice with her naginata, by using Hyoton. Although she prefer to use Hyoton blasts. as opposed close-combat attacks, she is more than capable of doing so. She has trained in Naginatajutsu from the time she was small. GENJUTSU: SKILL RANK: E SKILL LEVEL DESCRIPTION: Kaede has absolutely no skill in Genjutsu, aside from being able to recognize when she is in one. She has not spent any time at all training in Genjutsu. FUUINJUSTU: SKILL RANK: C SKILL LEVEL DESCRIPTION: Until recently, Kaede would have had an E rank in Fuuinjutusu, but since the outbreak of the Bijuu, she has been focusing on it. She has been focusing on attempting to create a jutsu she can use to seal Bijuu. |

It is said that very few rival her in this. She uses her chakra to enhance her speed, and leaves behind a trail of red chakra behind her as she moves. Red Kaede Though she was groomed by her mother to be a good leader, she did not need very much. Kaede was always a natural leader, and has committed herself to perfecting her abilities as a leader. From the way she carries herself, to how she speaks and just everything about her is what you would expect to see in a leader. She is not afraid to take charge when she needs to, and will step aside if she believes she should. She commands a sense of charisma, that naturally makes people want to follow her. This gives her the ability to easily manipulate the people around her, thought she would only do so for the good of the village. As well, this gives naturally her excellent organizational skills, specifically in terms of people. Great Well of Chakra Kaede has trained herself for decades to hone her chakra control and reserves. She has developed a large amount a chakra, which she calls her Great Well of Chakra. She appears to have an almost infinite supply of chakra at her disposal; though this is obviously not the case, she does has chakra reserve much greater than the average shinobi, similar to that of a Jinchuriki. She is also able to masterfully control her chakra. Genius Level Intellect A naturally gifted child, Kaede also possessed a high intellect from birth. Over the years, especially the last seven in which she has been Raikage, she has gained a genius level of intelligence. Her main skill being in strategic thinking and problem solving. Aianredī (The Iron Lady) In the years following her father's death, Kaede went through intensive training to prepare her to become Kenshin's successor as the villages Chief Strategist. This training was not just grooming her to be a leader, she also trained physically. She was put through rigorous regiments meant to hone her skills and endurance. Through this she has increased herdurability. Most physical attacks are only about half as effective on her, unless from a Taijutsu master. |
