Hagoromo Ichizoku
| CLAN TYPE: Hiden VILLAGE: Sunagakure no Sato ORIGIN: Kaminari no Kuni CLAN HISTORY:Oda Ninigi was the Hagoromo clan’s first father.
A faithful disciple of Ōtsutsuki Hagoromo, he studied Ninshū very closely, learning its secrets more intimately than anyone else, eventually becoming a recognized prodigy in the eyes of his peers. Most particularly, he was a student of chakra and its miracles, desiring to know how he could replicate its functions in order to defeat death.
After eventually leaving Hagoromo to hide his ideas, he began to perform experiments to test his hypothesis. During this time, he made use of Ninshū to develop relationships with the people who lived in the land, and to find a place to rest, and to this day, Ninigi is still regarded in and around that land in the form of legend as a mysterious being who came and devoured all life, leaving only overbearing heat and stiffening cold.
In his experiments, Ninigi used chakra to extract the life energy of other beings, combing that life energy with chakra in order to form a new chakra form that he referred to as Living Chakra. It was a highly energetic, unstable chakra form that was almost impossible to shape, and it took years for him to find the proper ratio for it to hold together. However, once he did, he absorbed the chakra into himself and meditated, retaining it without rest and food until it became apart of him.
This also took time to ptoperly accomplish, but once he finally acheived it, the Living Chakra successfully replaced his own. Throughout this period, he also came to notice that he needed food and water and sleep less and less, and it was only once he forewent them that he successfully assimilated the chakra.
It should also be noted that as his years in the land went on and on, the people (who by this time had made him leader of a small nation) gave him the title “Sage of Chakra”. Later, he became as the “Blood Demon” by some who disagreed with him robbing other beings of their life force, even though he never used humans in his experiments. That is, until he used his own son.
As it happens, Ninigi noticed that the Living Chakra eventually stabilized itself after being within him for a time. Moreover, that it became stable by adapting to him, which allowed him to better manipulate. This eventually lead to certain theories that caused him to “feed” Living Chakra into his son.
While this lead to the birth of the first human being to ever be born with Living Chakra, his wife died in the process as her very life force was forcibly absorbed by her son and used to stabilize the process. This took the form of an “egg” that surrounded the boy, so that when his mother perished, he continued to live and grow.
Ninigi named the boy Hagoromo after his beloved teacher, raising him by the basic principles of Ninshū until he eventually sent him off to learn under Ōtsutsuki Hagoromo.
Hagoromo took kindly to the Sage, who seemed wise and pleasant enough. He adored Ninshū even more, however, which seemed so much more beautiful when understood in its fullness. He did, however, come to realize that what his father taught was tainted, which helped him to finally reconcile to himself the sense of evil that he always felt from Ninigi. And as it happened, Hagoromo was a strong proponent of truth. When the Sage once called him an abomination, he simply accepted it as fact; and so he knew that his father might have to be confronted.
When Hagoromo returned to his father after some time, Ninigi had become so much worse than he remembered. Some people called his father “Blood Demon”, and after asking around, he discovered that Ninigi had been robbing other beings of life for years, and that he had graduated to using even human beings as of late.
The more he pressed people of just how as of late “as of late” was, he learned the hard truth that his mother’s death and his own birth were the dates that most corresponded with the timing.
Having some sense now of why the Sage had called him an abomination exactly, he confronted Ninigi, and learned directly from him the extent of his sin. He learned that Ninigi’s reach now stretched across the whole land, and that people began calling him “Shinobi no Kami” because of his dictate, and that he was treating the people as if he were a demiurge, oppressing them through Ninshū and using their chakra as his own.
Outraged, Hagoromo dared to attack, but Ninigi somehow gave him insight into just how much power he had, and Hagoromo, feeling as if he were truly standing before a god, gave up and returned to the Sage.
Years later, after Hagoromo grew stronger, unlocking the true nature of his abominable being alongside the Sage, he confronted Ninigi again, and fought him, and won.
After this, Hagoromo eventually tgined the title “Sage of Ninshū” for restoring the Sage’s teachings amongst the people. He left the land shortly after competing this task, hoping that neither he nor his descendants would ever come upon that land again.
For the sake of length: The Hagoromo become a functioning clan after Oda Hōjusha adopts the Hagoromo surname, becoming Hagoromo Hōjusha.
From him proceed tweleve sons who become titans within the shinobi world, leading the clan into battles as generals, creating thw blueprint for the modern expression of Ninshū combat by sharing their powerful and abudant chakra with their kin and boosting the clan’s combat potential.
The Knights of the Hagoromo clan is created, but as the Twelve Patriarchs die off, the Knights grow progressively weaker until they become obsolete.
The Priesthood of Hagoromo forms decades afterwards to give the clan a solid sense of order. They do no fight during these times, instead relying on diplomacy as a source of protection. The priests eventually end up producing the majority of these figures, but this eventually corrupts it, as the corruptions of the state ruin the religion.
This is the first time in history that any of the Patriarchs reincarnate. Those reincarnations restore the Priesthood, and return order to the clan.
Hagoromo Saigami eventually establishes a culture within the Priesthood of “observing the chakra of the world”, the idea being that if they would run rather than fight, they should use Ninshū to improve their chances of escape. This turns out to be rather successful, as the connection to various beings around the world allow the priests to “predict” world history and avoid drama. But there are, of course, blindspots.
This practice makes the priests aware of the reincarnating of the twelve patriarchs, as they all show up in one generation. This also happens to be the very same generation that the rivals of the Hagoromo, the Oda Clan, begin a large scale siege in an attempt to route them.
Hagoromo Eiji rejects the ideas of Saigami during these years, instead insisting on a combat application of Ninshū that reversed the principles of the Twelve Patriarchs. This creates a distinction within the Priesthood of Hagoromo and the Priesthood after the Order of Saigami is born. This eventually gives some credibility to the heretical ideas of those used Ninshū to exploit other beings, and so the Priesthood after the Order of Ninigi is also born.
The rise of Jūbi marked the third time that the Patriarchs all appeared in one generation. However, all but one of them died.
During the war, the Hagoromo transcended borders, connecting all people from all clans and coordinating movements and actions. Thy showed such tactical prowess that other clans truly began to fear them, and they may have been the subject of mass genocide had it not been for the greed of the Kazekage, who knew their value and hide them behind his strength.
They migrated to Kaze no Kuni and eventually joined Sunagakure, where they now reside. CLAN IDEOLOGY:Although both Ōtsutsuki Hagoromo and Oda Hagoromo may have disagreed, the modern incarnation of Ninshū taught by the Hagoromo clan is a semi-humanistic religion teaching that men are the living incarnations of chakra itself. A shorthand quote that the Hagoromo use to express this idea says that “men are chakra experiencing itself”.
Because of this, the clan generally believes that human beings hold the high responsibility of stewarding creation. At the height of this is man's treatment of himself; for he treats himself horribly, he will inevitably treat everything else horribly as well, and will cause other men to do the same. Thus, Hagoromo are generally charitable people who seek diplomacy as the first solution to their problems.
It is important to note, however, that Ninshū does not insist any such notion of inherent good, as chakra isn't inherently anything. The value of man comes not from any extrinsic sense, such as goodness or power or intelligence, but from the intrinsic sense that every man is equally responsible for everything else around him. CLAN ABILITIES:[Unique and Powerful Chakra]: Hagoromo shinobi are known to possess incredibly potent chakra. Even when they are babies, the strength of their chakra tends to shock sensors even the most amateur sensors, who have described Hagoromo chakra as “being threaded together so tightly that it feels like a heavy, extremely thick blanket when soaked with water” and as “having the depth of the deepest ponds and lakes”.
This unique method of chakra production in a sense “stacks” the Hagoromo’s chakra—using an analogy, if those with “large chakra reserve” SA’s have 10,000+ legos to create structures with compared to the average person’s 100 legos, the Hagoromo has 10,000+ legos that merged together to form 100 super-sized, so that while they have the same number of legos as the average person, the structures that they create are naturally heavier and larger, possessing more mass than otherwise possible.
In practical terms, this means that when a Hagoromo performs a technique, the strength of that technique is one rank higher than when it is performed by other shinobi. This also tends to affect their nature transformations, causing their flames to feel denser and hotter, for example.
The “unique”part of their chakra is that, over time, it tends to develop various traits based on it’s owner’s personality. These traits usually mean nothing to a Hagoromo until they learn to use the clan’s shakujōjutsu, exploiting said straights with ninjutsu. These traits can also cause certain effects in those who absorb Hagoromo chakra. For this reason, all Hagoromo are taught to neutralize their chakra when using Ninshū techniques. [Ninshū — Secrets of the Tabernacle]: Through the First Patriachs of the Hagoromo Clan—the brothers Oda Mori, who fathered the First Major House of Mori (which is now a Minor House) and the Order of Ninigi, Oda Moeru, who fathered the Oda Clan and the First Major House of Moeru (which is now a Minor House) and also the Order of Saigami, and Oda Hōjusha, the first to use the Hagoromo surname and the father of the clan: they were the sons of Oda Eijima, the son of Oda Mimigi, the son of Oda Hagoromo, the son of Oda Ninigi who was Ōtsutsuki Hagoromo’s most talented disciple—the practices of Ninshū were preserved and passed down to the clan.
Responsible for the clan’s unity even throughout the most tense phases of their history, Ninshū was a practice designed to connect people by their spiritual energies through chakra, a process intended to elicit understanding. It was also intended to inspire mutual care between people, and a key function of Ninshū was praying for the sake of others.
For the longest time, this was a rather uneventful practice until the Hagoromo began using the practice in combat, and even outside of combat for uses such as interrogation. Today, the art is mostly restricted to the Priesthood; however, every member of the clan is expected to learn the “Ninshū — Secrets of the Tabernacle” rite-of-passage technique for which the Hijutsu is named, which allows the Hagoromo to connect themselves to other beings by way of chakra transfer, molding their spiritual energies together with the spiritual energies of other beings in order to form a technically-telepathic link.
Through this combination of the chakra and spiritual energies of multiple beings, Ninshū — Secrets of the Tabernacle creates two new and temporary realities: A collective body of chakra and a collective spirit that inhabits that chakra. It is to this Collective Chakra that the priests pray when using the “Ninshū — Secrets of the Priesthood” technique, the first of the techniques unique to the Priesthood of Hagoromo.
Through Ninshū — Secrets of the Priesthood, the priests and priest-warriors of the clan are able to pray for the sake of their allies, which is really the act of sending commands to the Collective Chakra formed by the beings connected by Ninshū — Secrets of the Tabernacle. The Collective Spirit receives these commands and applies the composite experience and knowledge of all the people connected through Ninshū — Secrets of the Tabernacle, producing motions within the Collective Chakra that shape and transform it in order to produce certain effects within the target(s) of the priest/priest-warrior, such as increased strength or the healing of wounds. This is the basic nature of the clan’s hijutsu.
The difference between priests and priest-warriors is that priests are near-exclusive to the clan’s hijutsu, only able to learn seal-based techniques, which is considered an inherently spiritual practice. Because of this, they gain a +2 rank bonus to their hijutsu, but also experience a -2 rank debuff to their non-secondary specialties. This is because the priests function as the generals-on-the-hilltops, and must have the utmost skill with the clan’s hijutsu in order to properly serve as the “minds” of the shinobi whom they have been charged with.
Priest-Warriors on the other hand are permitted and encouraged and taught to study the “passive arts” of “Ninjutsu”, these being iryōninjutsu, genjutsu, kekkai ninjutsu, and the summoning technique. This is because priest-warriors serve as the clan’s field generals, practically, and must be able to fight with the competence of a shinobi. [Shakujō Mastery]:Clan members who decide to become priests or priest-warriors and dedicate themselves to Ninshū are all taught to wield the shakujō in combat with expert ability. These shakujō are usually the unique weapons of the Priesthood of Hagoromo, through which the priests and priest-warriors are allowed to perform non-Ninshū techniques, also bolstering the might of their prayers while simultaeneously focusing and personalizing them in order to create more combat-oriented Ninshū techniques. These shakujō are given to the clan member from the moment that they enter the Priesthood so that it can adapt to their chakra as soon as possible. From that moment forward, the clan member is trained to wield the weapon as if it were a part of their body. While the actual shakujō training is very rigorous, intended to facilitate the most intimate synchronization between weapon and wielder as humanly possible, clan members also carry their shakujō with them while training and studying in other fields and subjects for the very same reason. [The Order of Saigami]:A distinct sect of the Priesthood of Hagoromo that operates “after the order of Saigami”, they are priests who specialize in an application of Ninshū that observes the chakra of all things in an attempt to understand and foresee the times and the seasons and the motions of world history, usually through a collaborative effort of meditative observation and persistent prayer. They are especially gifted at predicting the coming of the Patriarchs and observing new births in general, occasionally blessing the newborns of the village, but can also gain insight to the hearts of men, usually possessing a formidable understanding of the psychologies of various communities while also serving the auxiliary function of “watchmen on the wall”, sensing coming dangers and warning the clan in advance. [The Order of Ninigi]:A distinct sect of the Priesthood of Hagoromo that operates “after the order of Ninigi”, they are priest-warrirors who use Ninshū maliciously, dominating other beings and establishing themselves above them as “gods”. They are known to fight alongside packs of other beings whom they control and siphon chakra from, some being followers and zealots while others are slaves. They have also been known to rob other beings of their chakra, leaving them for dead. Due to the fact that they are so learned with forceful applications of Ninshū, they have also developed more “non-ally” combat-ready applications of the Hijutsu, and also practice Ninjutsu more freely than their counterparts, being considered “priests” in name only. For these reasons, they have been barred from the Priesthood’s shakujōjutsu, indicating that they are not recognized as Priests of Ninshū.
[The Act of Rebirth]: Due to how powerful the chakra of Hagoromo clan members is, certain members of the clan sometimes become transmigrants, reincarnating throughout the generations either continuously or for a set number of times. This is one of the reasons that the Twelve Major Houses came into being, as the reincarnations of the Twelve Patriarchs of the Hagoromo Clan eventually produced lineages of Hagoromo who possessed such distinctively similar chakra that the Transmigracy, partnered together with the Priesthood, were able to trace most Hagoromo back to one of the Twelve Patriarchs.
The Priesthood of Hagoromo has its own line of transmigrants, however. These transmigrants formed not as a matter of strength (as the priests are rarely that strong compared to their warrior brethren), but as a matter of will, deriving from a particular hijutsu unique to the Transmigracy (流血; "Rule of the Transmigrants"). These Transmigrants are known as the Four Pillars, who retain their personal autonomy unlike the Twelve Patriarchs, manifesting as the Dragon (whose name is "青竜"; "Seiryu"), the Phoenix (whose name is "朱雀"; "Suzaku"), the Snake-Tailed Turtle (whose name is "玄武"; "Genbu"), and the Tiger (whose name is "白虎"; "Byakko").
The Patriarchal line of Transmigrants, being warrior-born, has qualities associated with strength. Inheritors of the chakra are considered to be Incarnations, “the chakra of the Patriarchs made flesh”. Through their Incarnations, the Transmigrants increase the strength of their chakra with each Generation—a Generation being each time that a reincarnation is born—a process that can skip generations given that the Patriarchs aren't autonomous and can not choose. (How many generations are skipped will be dictated by staff). This also means that there are discrepancies between the Incarnations in terms of the potential strength of their chakra, as they all incarnate at different times and with different frequencies and have only thrice existed together in full number throughout the history of the clan; and even then, not all of their Incarnations were shinobi, or exceptional enough shinobi to significantly increase their particular Transmigrant’s chakra, and some may have even chose to become priests or priest-warriors during their lifetimes, thus lacking the strength associated with their warrior brethren.
The Transmigracy, on the other hand, is priest-born, possessing qualities associated with communion and knowledge. Their inheritors are known as Avatars, “those who personify the Pillars”. Because the Pillars are autonomous, they are able to share knowledge and wisdom with their Avatars, who must learn to commune and communicate with them. Through their Pillars, Avatars are able to access their “past lives”, drawing on the experiences of the Avatars who came before them. While the autonomy of the Pillars prevents their chakra from increasing with each generation, which for them is significantly more often than the Patriarchs, occurring whenever an Avatar dies, they do possess the ability to share their own chakra with their Avatars as well as to share skills unique to their chosen forms (such as wings for the Avatar of the Seiryu or heightened senses for the Avatar of the Byakko). The Avatar will also inherit the congenital affinities of their Transmigrants as a second natural affinity.
The only Major House that does not have a transmigrant is the House of Hagoromo, as Oda Hagoromo either never became a transmigrant or simply chose not to reincarnate. CLAN HIERARCHY:The Hagoromo are ruled by the Thirteen Major Houses of the Hagoromo Clan. The House of Hagoromo rules through the Priesthood of Hagorom, which is headed by the Transmigracy, while the other Twelve Major Houses rule through the Patriarchy, which is headed either by the Incarnations of the Twelve Patriarchs or by the Heads of the Major Houses in the case that a Patriarch has yet to reincarnate.
It is the Priesthood that is responsible for governing the military and the Patriarchy that is responsible for governing socio-political and geo-political affairs, although each chamber of government has some say so in each other’s given fields. For example, while the Patriarchs are generals within the military, the Four Pillars of the Transmigracy are statesmen within the civilian government.
Through this system, the Hagoromo Clan is divided into sectors. These sectors are referred to in the civilian government as “provinces” and in the military as “winds”. Each of the six provinces (the Province of Kishimoto, the Province of Mori, the Province of Moeru, the Province of Mimigi, the Province of Eijima, and the Province of Hojōsha) is governed by two Patriarchs and one Pillar each, while the four winds of the military (the East Wind, the South Wind, the West Wind, and the North Wind) are each headed by a single Pillar who serves as commanding-general over three Patriarchs with the Phoenix serving as comander-in-chief over his fellow Pillars.
